In the village of Okara, a day before the wedding, brides send dowry to the groom’s house

A young woman of a village in Nabha refused to marry the groom for demanding dowry and got them booked under sections of Indian Penal Code a day before her marriage. She was supposed to tie a knot on Thursday but instead of the marriage palace booked for the grand occasion, she reached the police station along with family members.
The police have booked would-be groom, his family members and a woman who got the marriage fixed between would-be bride and groom.
The police said that girl in her late 20s refused to tie the knot with the accused Narinder Singh, 30, of Duladdi village of Nabha division in Patiala district. The police claimed that the girl hailed from Dandrala Kharaur village of Bhadson block of Patiala and their marriage got fixed last year. It is learnt that the would-be bride was a graduate and had good scores in the IELTS while the would-be groom and his family had planned to send both of them abroad on the basis of woman’s IELTS.
The villagers are praising the woman and her family for taking a stand against the dowry as she refused to meet the demand of the accused anymore and along with her family members reached the police station to register her complaint.
