After taking some shots at the Bahshahi Mosque, I walked to the Lahore Fort that lies adjacent to the mosque. The Fort is spread over an area of 20 hectares and is referred to as the “Shahi Qila” in the local language.

The Lahore Fort was built during the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar and was regularly upgraded by subsequent rulers, having thirteen gates in all. Famous sites inside the mosque are: Sheesh Mahal, Alamgiri Gate, Naulakha pavilion, and Moti Masjid. In 1981, the fort was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Shalimar Gardens (Lahore).

There is a lot more that you can find on the internet about this enormous Fort. People come here to see this magnificent architecture from different parts of the world and get inspired by the Mughal Art that ruled the subcontinent for centuries.

Its always good to know about the place and its significance before you go for a visit. It makes you feel more connected to the things you observe while you travel and develops in you the urge to learn how people have used the world for themselves in the past.

Photos from this PhotoTour have also been published on my world-wide blog. Click on the link below to view the post, “The Magnificent Shahi Qilla – Lahore Fort”
