Appreciate your parents

I believe in appreciating your parents.

Every person has a different relationship with their parents either good or bad but I’ve come to appreciate mine with my parents since we share such a close relationship. My parents have always been there for me since I was really little. They have given me advice on what is best to do during certain situations. I feel like I’ve learned a lot from them throughout my life.

Since my parents still go by their traditional ground rules which they were given when they were teenagers, when it comes to me dating or going out with friends they can be somewhat strict about letting me go. For example, they expect me to come home at a certain time and want me to tell them where I’m going to be at when I’m hanging out with friends.

Now with dating my dad tends to be more strict with that since he can be a little too over protective of me. He wants to meet the guy first before letting me go out with him which I find kind of annoying. But then again they’re my parents and whatever they say, goes. So until I’m old enough to make my own decisions and be on my own I feel like it’s necessary to go by their rules. In a way I like how they’ve raised me because I think by me following their rules has helped me stay out of trouble.

With my mom, I feel a close connection, which allows me to tell her certain things that I can’t keep to myself. She is like my guardian angel that I can go to whenever I’m feeling down. Whenever I’m feeling mad, depressed, or upset about something she can always tell what is wrong which freaks me out at times. Because I’m so closed to her when she asks me what is wrong I confess to her everything. After talking to her I feel much better and like I can finally breathe without having a bad conscience.

My dad on the other hand, is more of my hero. He makes me feel safe when I’m with him like no one can hurt me. He’s not the one to come up to me and ask me what is wrong but to make me laugh to cheer me up. He doesn’t need for me to tell him what is wrong because he can figure it out on his own which therefore tells me strictly what to do and sometimes uses his own past experiences to teach me a lesson. After listening to him I feel more confident about myself.
