Warren Buffett Warren Buffett found himself Wednesday night in the position of any startled homeowner dealing with a late-night intruder.

A man dressed all in black with camouflage paint on his face and a fake gun tried to break into the billionaire investor’s house but fled after a scuffle with a security guard, police said Thursday. Buffett and his wife, Astrid, live in the same Omaha, Neb., home he bought in 1958 for $31,500. Today the home is valued for property taxes at $700,000 (an appraisal Buffet challenged in 2003).

The would-be intruder never made it into the Buffett home, though police describe the case as an attempted robbery. Astrid summoned a security guard after the doorbell rang shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday. The guard confronted the man on the front porch. He fled after striking the guard on the head and remained at large Thursday, police said. Neither Buffett, who was also home at the time, nor his wife was injured.
