Even after the Parliament passing a bill that criminalises the instant divorce by Muslim men, complaints against the practice of triple talaq continue to pour in from various states. In the latest case, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur alleged she was given triple talaq for merely asking her husband for Rs 30 to buy medicine. The incident happened two day ago. The woman in her complaint alleged that her husband had taken away their children and pushed her out of their house.
The victim’s mother told ANI, “My daughter fell ill and she demanded money for medicine from her husband. They had an argument after which she was given triple talaq and ousted from her in-law’s house.”
DSP, Hapur, Rajesh Singh, said that the woman’s complaint had already been filed and that an investigation was on.The Parliament on July 30 approved the Muslim Women,
(Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill that makes instant triple talaq a criminal offence, after the contentious legislation was passed by Rajya Sabha.
Under the new bill, Instant divorce by Muslim men is punishable by jail term of up to three years.Reports, however, suggest that even after the enaction of the new bill,
the practice is still prevalent.Last week, a woman in Uttar Pradesh alleged that her husband gave her triple talaq on WhatsApp from Kuwait, where he is working as a labourer, after she filed a dowry and harassment case against him.
