After the viral circulation of photos and videos of the death of Syed Asad Abbas Shah’s daughter, Sania Zahra, on social media, political, social, and women’s rights organizations worldwide have condemned the incident. Yesterday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz called Syed Asad Abbas Shah to express her condolences and promised a transparent investigation into Sania Zahra’s murder.
Today, on behalf of Maryam Nawaz, Provincial Minister Suhail Butt and Human Rights Commission Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt visited Syed Asad Abbas Shah’s residence in Chowk Kumharanwala. They offered their condolences for his daughter’s sudden death and vowed to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the culprits to justice. During the visit, the names of six suspects, including Jeevan Shah, his wife, daughter, and sons Ali Raza and Haider Shah, were placed on an airport alert to prevent them from fleeing.
Senior police and administrative officials, including the CPO, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, AC, SSP, SP, ASP, DSP, and SHO, were also present. Sania Zahra’s exhumation for post-mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8 AM. It is noteworthy that prominent figures and human rights organizations from various countries, including Fatima Bhutto, Junior Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and representatives from India, Turkey, and the UK, have condemned Sania Zahra’s murder and demanded immediate justice.
The people of Multan and the surrounding areas are raising their voices against this atrocity to ensure that no other daughter suffers such a fate. Sania Zahra, a 20-year-old daughter of Syed Asad Abbas Shah, married Ali Raza Shah, the son of Jeevan Shah from Basti Bilel, four years ago. At the time of marriage, Jeevan Shah and his son deceived Syed Asad Abbas Shah by claiming that Ali Raza was unmarried, whereas Ali Raza had previously been married and had a daughter, which came to light six months after the wedding.
