Hazrat Dawood – peace be upon Him – had 99 wives, and after that, he sent proposal to another woman whom a Muslim man had already sent a proposal but after receiving Hazrat Dawood’s – peace be upon Him – proposal the woman and her guardians would not look any further, and she was given in his Nikah. It was not against the Shariah neither was it against the tradition of that era but since, the honour of the Ambiya is very high and excellent, it was not suitable for his great image, therefore Allah Almighty willed to make him aware of it.
Hence, to put it practically into action, two angels entered his court and presented a case, and instead of entering through the main gate they had jumped over the wall and entered the Masjid. He got a little worried seeing them jumping over the wall and coming. The angels said, “Please, you do not need be afraid, we are the two opponents; one has oppressed the other. Please, solve our matter with justice and guide us towards righteousness. Our matter is that, this brother of mine has 99 rams while I only possess one. He tells me to hand my one ram over to him, and he has been pressurizing me over that.”
Hazrat Dawood – peace be upon Him – quickly made the decision, “It is completely unfair of him to persuade you to give him your one ram. There is no doubt that people are often unfair in partnerships towards one another save the ones who possess Imaan and are pious, which is rare.”
Soon, after doing justice to their case, did he realize and came to understand that this case was in fact a test for him. Hence, he quickly fell into Sajdah and sought forgiveness from Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty forgave Him. It is mentioned in the Holy Quran as follows:
