There is a gem that we are spiritually hardwired and genetically programmed to uncover.
Our very nature demands that we find it. It is our soul’s most desperate desire and the crown jewel on the throne of our hearts. What is it? To search for our Lord and attain His nearness, so much so that He lovingly counts us amongst His chosen servants.
About this, the Promised Messiah (as) writes: ‘When we look into the faculties of man and try to discover what their highest reach is, we find that he seeks after God, the Exalted. He desires to become so devoted to God that he should keep nothing as his own and all that is his should become God’s… It is obvious, therefore, that the highest reach of man’s faculties is to meet God, the Exalted. Thus, the true purpose of his life is that the window of his heart should open towards God.
Although this inherent desire exists within each one of us, how do we truly attain Allah’s nearness? What practical steps can we take to be counted amongst the chosen servants of the Gracious One?
Allah Himself outlines these steps in the Holy Qur’an as He details what actions His servants must take to count themselves amongst His chosen creation.
