Photographer Joe Neely accidentally captured a moment that touched the world, and two bees sleeping on a flower became the most popular vision of nature at its purest and most primitive.
In the spring of 2019, while traveling through the American West with his girlfriend Nicole, he stopped his car in Colorado near a field dotted with purple and orange flowers. All that could be heard was the buzzing of the bees, which occupied almost every flower.
“I was drawn to one that was slower than the others. She was obviously tired from her work, because she was covered in pollen. She first looked at the flower on the stem across the street and when she was sure the air was clear, she came in and lay down. I couldn’t believe it. I took pictures with a macro lens, she didn’t notice me, and even if she had noticed she probably wouldn’t have had the strength to react. Then another one came. She looked down and soon joined her. We waited for them to wake up and fly away. I had no idea that bees slept in flowers ”
