Take a walk into any high street financial institution such as a bank, building society or foreign exchange office and you’ll find a cashier. The bank cashier fulfils a specific role which is to serve the bank’s customers with their daily money requirements. This includes taking in credit slips, cashing cheques (all of which has to be added up and balanced at the end of your day).
In short, you’re part administrator, part customer liaison and part accountant. You’ll also be there to help people with enquires complaints and requests. Needless to say, you’ll need to be quick, efficient and accurate – as well as actually liking dealing with people.
Although banks and building societies encourage customers to go online and only use credit cards, there continues to be a need for customer facing cashiers to provide the human touch – and it’s unlikely ever to change. |
