Bud Shelton designs the Man-Crab costume to get revenge on Peter Trickell for stealing his idea of selling water and advertising it as healthier than regular water, even though it isn’t.
The Man-Crab kidnaps Brenda and Dylan Ryan before the volleyball tournament. In his costume, as well, he watches the gang walk away from Skipper Shelton’s Clam Cabin. He kidnaps a girl during the tournament and later takes Daphne. The Man-Crab watches the gang while they are researching at the Crystal Cove Library. The gang finds his hideout in the Crystal Cove Caves, and frees who he kidnapped. The Man-Crab then chases them up to the beach, where he is captured in a trap and is unmasked.
