IT Governance is the knowledge allowing the strategic alignment of IT with business so that the maximum value of the company is achieved by the development and effective control of information, responsibility, performance and risk management.
This knowledge is mainly capitalized in good practice guidelines written by experts in the field. They make them available to companies and auditors for certification or performance improvement. However, the use of this knowledge in the right way is both expensive and complicated.
