It is rightly said that a person with a hobby is never bored and never idle. A hobby can be any activity which you like to indulge in during your free time. It gives you pleasure and satisfaction, and keeps you busy. From collecting stamps, coins, bottle caps, match boxes, etc., to scuba diving and sliding, hobbies are varied and diverse, and in some cases a bit weird too. But whatever suits a person’s taste can be taken up as a hobby. It is best to have a hobby that is productive and constructive too.

Here are some hobbies commonly adopted by people all over the world.

Sport

A sporting hobby can be exciting and challenging like rollerblading, skateboarding or go-carting or more intellectually challenging as chess or scrabble. It can also be an energetic and vigorous game, such as badminton, cricket or table tennis.

Having a passion for some sport is the healthiest of all hobbies. It would keep you fit along with providing endless hours of fun and excitement. You can join a club for any game, become a part of your school team or just gather your friends and siblings together, and have a good game with them. Countless options are available, however, carry these out under your parents’ supervision as they can be hazardous. Remember, most famous athletes and sportsmen have taken their sport as a hobby in the beginning.

Acting

Watching a number of young kids like oneself, working in commercials, dramas and movies can tempt one to try to discover and bring out the performer within. Although it might be difficult to become the next Selena Gomez or Dylan Sprouse, you can be the sensation of your school’s drama club. If your school does not have one, start it with the help of your friends.

Stage plays at your school, which are part of your course or enact characters from the novels that are in your school reading package. The main thing is if you have an interest in something, try it out and see how you feel about it. Of course you must seek your parents’ permission and approval before going ahead with the idea.

Net surfing

You cannot term surfing as your hobby if the only thing that you do online is chatting and getting updates from your friends on Facebook and Orkut.

For proper surfing choose an interesting topic. Find three to four good websites related to that topic from the truckload that Google will bombard on you in response to your request. Bookmark the best one. Keep a word document open in the background and save useful information in the form of bullets. Now your time online can be spent in a productive way. But of course, whenever you use the internet, it must be with the permission of your parents and their full knowledge.
