I made a point of listening for noises when someone was in the house with me, like when my son was home from college. Because, I wondered: have there always been noises like that, but I just didn’t notice them when others were around? The answer was yes! And that made me feel so much better. It seems that houses, all houses, make random noises for mostly reasons that can’t be explained.
Sometimes, you may find an explanation for the noises, some time after the fact. Example: 1) One day, I went into the garage, in which I have way too many things, and I noticed that some things had fallen over.
I realized that the things that fell were heavy enough to have caused one of those “unexplainable” noises. 2) When I went outside during the day to throw something in the trashcan,
a neighbor’s cat made a strange noise and it reminded me of one night when I heard a similar noise. There was another mystery solved! So, if you’re patient and observant,
you can find explanations for at least some of the noises that happen. **I’ve also noticed that -refrigerators- make quite a few random noises.
