Typing “.” Into YouTube, also known as Don’t Search “.” On YouTube, refers to a quirk of YouTube that typing one or more periods, AKA full stop mark, into YouTube’s search bar will cause the bar to autofill with strange suggestions, some of which can bring users to creepy and, supposedly, illegal and disturbing videos with a seemingly random assortment of symbols as their titles.
It is believed these videos are uploaded with these titles in order to bypass the YouTube moderation algorithm that would otherwise catch illegal or copyrighted content. Some YouTubers have also uploaded shitposts to the site with the title “Full Stop Punctuation” so that they appear when a user specifically searches “.” The trend became a social game or challenge online around 2020 and 2021, similar to Don’t Google memes.
